The McDowell Junior High Wrestling Program (7th and 8th grade) prepares wrestlers for the more experienced competition they will face in high school.
The McDowell JV and Varsity Wrestling Programs include wrestlers at the high school level (9th through 12th grade), who compete within PIAA District 10.
Wrestling is not luck — it is about the physical and mental preparation to outlast and overcome any challenger. The Trojan War molded some of mythology's fiercest warriors — the McDowell Trojans wrestling program molds confident, resilient, and fearless young men who will help shape its future. To many, wrestling isn't just a sport — it's life.
Following are some of the life skills learned in our program:
3. Mental Toughness
7. Agility, Balance and Flexibility
8. Self Defense
9. Nutrition and Weight Management
We stress the importance of traits such as: sportsmanship, honoring others (parents, coaches, opponents, officials), focusing on performance and execution rather than match score or winning/losing, learning positive thinking, mental visualization of success, goal setting and the realistic tracking of goals, embracing/ignoring pain (both acute and conditioning induced) and focusing on personal victories rather than medals, all of which will translate into lifelong success.
